Chapter 1: What is Match Three?

Basically you have a board of any size filled with different type of tokens. Your goal is to swap two adjacent tokens to match 3 or more of the same type. Tokens that are matched will be removed from the board. There are hundreds of different possibilities for the actual game-play. I’m pretty sure you already played a match 3 game in the past. I give you a few examples of the most popular ones: Tetris, Bejeweled, Bust-A-Move, Zuma and many more.

Action RPG Inventory Part 1

This article will be the first in a series of six articles that will show you how to setup an aRPG Inventory that is similar to inventories in games like Diablo, Titan Quest or Sacred.

Target audience: advanced / experts & basic knowledge of the Action RPG genre

Key characteristics are:
- a grid based inventory area
- items in the inventory are snapped to the grid
- items may be of various height and width
- drag & drop interaction
- items are based in an item database
- database and graphics are stored externaly and are not hardcoded
- consumables like potions and spells
- ability to sort the inventory content
